The phrase "slow and steady wins the race" fits perfectly with any fitness goal. Let's say your goal is fat loss. Consistency is going to one of the obstacles that will prevent you from reaching your goal.
If you lift weights once every 4 weeks you won't build lean body mass which is critical for fat loss. As long as you are consistent with training frequency then gains will be gradual but steady. Missing a training session once in a while due school or family related issues is nothing to lose sleep over. It becomes more of a problem if you miss several weeks in a row. The same can be said with nutrition. By eating consistently healthy it will help improve your body composition. Also sleep needs to be consistent to assist in proper recovery.
